about your management decisions?

Why Journal?

I’m a huge advocate for the power of journaling as a key professional development tool, especially for managers.

Research has shown that journaling not only helps us grow in self-awareness but also strengthens our resilience. It’s a fantastic mental health strategy.

How to Journal!

Okay, I get it! You’re wondering how to actually start journaling.

There are two ways I recommend journaling to Managers:

  1. Capture Your Thoughts:
Set aside 10 min, to simply let your thoughts flow onto paper. Write down everything that’s on your mind, without any judgment or filtering.
  2. Constructive Debriefing:
For managers, I strongly recommend using your journal to debrief critical moments at work.  That simple act of capturing your thinking and sorting through, will help develop your skills as a leader.

Okay, I get it! You’re wondering how to actually start journalling.

There are two ways I recommend Journalling to Managers:

  1. Capture Your Thoughts:
Set aside 10 to 15 minutes, either at the beginning or end of your day, to simply let your thoughts flow onto paper. Write down everything that’s on your mind, without any judgment or filtering. Once you’re done, just leave it and don’t do anything with it.
  2. Constructive Debriefing:
For managers, I strongly recommend is using your journal to debrief critical moments at work. It could be a significant conversation, a project you’re working on, or even a meeting that simply went well. Ask yourself questions like: What could I do differently next time? What important insights do I want to remember? That simple act of capturing your thinking and sorting through, will help develop your skills as a leader.

For me, the real power lies in keeping my journal right next to me on my desk.

Whenever something intriguing happens or a thought strikes me, I grab my notebook. It's in these moments of insight that I spend just five minutes jotting down my thoughts.

I honestly love mine! There are so many sections that I can relate to, and journaling about them helps me to work out how I can manage things better in the future.

And the fact that they are in the book, tells me I'm not alone in having these scenarios come up, so that's also a bonus.
